So you want a Border Collie.........

Thanks, in part, to the wonderful movie "Babe", and increased use of Border Collies in commercials, the American public has come to appreciate the unequaled characteristics of the Border Collie as both a working dog and a playful companion.

Unfortunately, not every family is properly prepared to care for Border Collies. Border Collies are usually highly active animals that require a lot of exercise and attention. If they don't get this kind of care on a regular basis, they can become withdrawn or seek out activity on their own. Sometimes, this can take the form of attempting to "herd" children or cars. Anyone wishing to adopt a Border Collie must be willing and able to commit themselves, as well as their families, to providing the Border Collie sufficient attention and care.

Therefore, whenever considering a family for adoption of one our "star attractions", we must consider the following:
1. The family must have a fenced yard or live on a farm.
2. The family must be able to spend at least 20 minutes per day exercising the animal.
3. The animal must be spayed or neutered unless proven ABC registration and pedigree dictate otherwise (by exception only).
4. The family must have demonstrated some experience in raising dogs.
5. The family must have no history of animal abandonment, cruelty, or "puppy mill" activity.
